The Minister of Finance, Ahmed Sheku Fantamadi Bangura, has told Members of Parliament that the Finance Bill 2026 will mobilise NLe2.85 billion—or 1.5% of GDP—in additional revenue for the state.
Presenting the bill on November 26, the Minister said the reforms are aimed at boosting domestic revenue collection and improving service delivery.
Key measures include:
- Zero import duty on cooking gas, solar panels and accessories
- Increased excise duty on tobacco
- Reintroduction of excise on cement
- Extension of excise stamp to agricultural and household commodities
MPs urged government to match revenue reforms with responsible spending, better management, and stronger public financial controls.
