The Sierra Leone Reporters Union (SLRU) has taken a major step in strengthening professionalism in the media sector after successfully holding its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Makeni on November 22–23, 2025.

Members from across the country attended the two-day event, which featured discussions on governance, welfare, and newsroom reforms. A new constitution was adopted—a move the leadership says will rebuild the union’s voice and accountability.

SLRU President Yeanor Esther Kabia described the change as a major turning point for reporters nationwide.

Former SLAJ President Kelvin Xander Lewis urged journalists to remain dedicated to truth, fairness, and independence, emphasising that integrity must accompany institutional reforms.

The meeting also included sports activities aimed at promoting unity among journalists.

Delegates left the AGM with renewed confidence that the union will now focus more on member welfare, professional growth, safety, and capacity development
